What Poetry Form Are You?

I've never participated in Poetry Fridays, so in honor of the day:

I am the sonnet, never quickly thrilled;
Not prone to overstated gushing praise
Nor yet to seething rants and anger, filled
With overstretched opinions to rephrase;
But on the other hand, not fond of fools,
And thus, not fond of people, on the whole;
And holding to the sound and useful rules,
Not those that seek unjustified control.
I'm balanced, measured, sensible (at least,
I think I am, and usually I'm right);
And when more ostentatious types have ceased,
I'm still around, and doing, still, alright.
In short, I'm calm and rational and stable -
Or, well, I am, as much as I am able.

  1. Alvina,

    I see that Fuse #8 has written about the LB Fall Preview.

    Are you willing to write about it from an editor's perspective?

    ...and where are you moving your offices?

  2. Hi Alvina- it's me, Steve Emond, of sushi-eating fame. Thought as long as I'd found your blog and was reading it I should say hello so as not to feel like a stalker. I started my own blogger to log my writing process so feel free to revenge-stalk!

  3. Alvina, Guess which one I came up? Blank verse. I feel like a passed a test. If it had come up sonnet, we might have had to go back to press. Ellen Y.

  5. Hi, Alvina,

    Apropos of nothing at all (except poetry), I thought I'd weigh in with a little ditty I hope is not thought objectionable:

    The Difference

    Academic exegeses
    Labor over which is which.
    Simple. Verse is quick and easy.
    Poetry’s a bitch.

    Thank you for TULIP!

  6. I just learned my 2nd new word of the day, as I'm a Triolet, and
    LOVE it, even though I consider myself poetryphobic. Speaking of phobic, the other new word of the day for me is triskaidekaphobia (Friday the 13th and all...)
